AmarinTV Election 2023: Live Results, Live Worlds
Virtual production for AmarinTV's coverage of Thailand's 2023 general election — an AR results package, three virtual sets, and a cast of 3D candidate characters, all running live as the night unfolded.
Election Night, In Real Time
On 14 May 2023, Thailand went to the polls for its general election, and AmarinTV covered the results live. KAMELION delivered the virtual production for the broadcast: a set of augmented-reality objects and virtual sets that let the studio switch between data, ceremony, and spectacle as the night unfolded — plus the 3D characters and animation that gave the coverage its own visual identity.
Election night is the hardest live format there is. The running order is a guess. The numbers move for hours. Everything the audience sees has to be ready before anyone knows what the story will be, and every element has to hold up under a camera that isn't cutting away. Nothing gets a second take.
The AR Playbook
The augmented-reality package was built to carry results reporting through the evening. It included AR objects for exit polls, live statistics, a candidate standby display, and a virtual reporter interview screen, alongside a station logo treatment. As the story moved toward outcomes, the graphics escalated: candidate 3D character openings, a government formation sequence, a runway, and a boxing platform motif for head-to-head framing.

The package was designed as a range rather than a sequence. Early in the night, coverage lives on numbers, so the AR stays close to the presenters and gets out of the way. Later, as seats resolve and coalitions come into view, the graphics can take the floor — characters, entrances, direct confrontation. The same studio had to do both, and switch between them on a producer's call.
Virtual Sets
Three virtual sets extended the physical studio. A partition set was matched to the real set so the camera could move between them cleanly; a second partition opened, via a doorway, into a boxing-stadium environment for competitive segments; and a Sappaya-Sapasathan parliament set placed the coverage inside Thailand's seat of government for the results and formation story.
The doorway is the detail worth pausing on. Cutting to a new environment is easy; travelling into one and keeping the audience oriented is not. Matching the partition to the real set gave the broadcast a continuous space to move through, so the boxing stadium read as somewhere the show went rather than somewhere it jumped to.
3D Modeling and Character Animation
KAMELION handled the CG end as well — 3D modeling of the candidate characters, import, materials assignment, and set dressing, and a full animation set so each character could react to the night. The characters carried a run of states: idle, warm-up, running-with-warm-up, happy, sad, and victory — a small performance vocabulary for turning live results into on-air moments.
Six states is a deliberate number. Enough range that a character can carry a story beat, few enough that an operator under pressure can find the right one immediately. Idle and warm-up cover the long middle of the night; happy, sad, and victory cover the turns. The vocabulary was built for the person driving it as much as for the audience watching it.
What It Left Behind
The broadcast paired hard data with character-led spectacle in a single live environment, and became the groundwork AmarinTV's election graphics would build on in later cycles. In 2026, AmarinTV designed their own coverage in-house and brought KAMELION back for the layer underneath — middleware, Blueprint logic, and an operator control app to make the graphics data-driven. The 2023 build established the visual and virtual-production foundation. The 2026 work made it programmable.
